The challenge and what we did
The challenge
- The go-live had suffered many delays under a big bang approach.
- Critical problems remained to be resolved inside Aras.
- The incumbent system integrator partner lacked the technical expertise to close the gaps.
- Aras cloud infrastructure and data indexing both presented challenges at this scale.
What we did
- Provided infrastructure operation support through to a successful go-live.
- Managed a clustered infrastructure of more than 40 servers worldwide, implemented over Azure cloud, tuned for performance.
- Improved Aras Enterprise Search to index 8 TB of data and still perform.
- Delivered Aras PLM to SAP and Oracle ERP BOM data management, supporting their complex BOMs.
- Supported 37+ CAD and enterprise application integrations.
What we found
The programme had stalled. A big bang go-live had been delayed repeatedly, critical problems were still open inside Aras, and the system integrator in place did not have the technical depth to close them. Two of those problems were infrastructure-shaped rather than functional: an Aras cloud estate that had to run across dozens of servers worldwide, and a data volume large enough that indexing it was its own engineering problem.
What we built
The infrastructure was implemented as a clustered environment over Azure cloud — more than 40 servers worldwide, managed for performance rather than merely stood up — carrying 37 or more CAD and enterprise application integrations. Aras Enterprise Search was improved specifically to handle indexing at 8 TB while still returning results quickly. On the data side, Aras PLM was connected to SAP and Oracle ERP for BOM data management, which is what their complex BOMs required.
Where it stands now
The go-live succeeded, and SteepGraph was a key pillar in making it so. The engagement continues as consulting and system integration partner on what is one of the biggest Aras implementations in the energy sector.
