The challenge and what we did
The challenge
- A complex system design was needed to manage the CAD metadata used for simulations.
- Automation was required to manage that CAD metadata within Aras.
- The process was long, which created a user adoption problem of its own.
- Maintaining the data by hand inside Aras left room for numerical human error.
What we did
- Built automated data creation from the CATIA V5 interface directly into Aras Innovator, so a large volume of metadata is auto-populated rather than entered.
- Developed an intelligent engine that identifies vehicles and their parts and writes the coordinate data as vectors.
- Designed error proofing into the way the data is managed.
What we found
The customer runs 3DEXPERIENCE in Japan and Aras Innovator in Europe, and the European side needed CAD assembly metadata available inside Aras to drive simulations. Getting it there was a long manual process, which produced two separate problems: users were reluctant to follow a process that took that long, and every manual step handling numerical coordinate data was an opportunity for an error that would be hard to spot downstream.
What we built
The solution moves the data automatically. A large volume of CAD assembly metadata is now auto-populated into Aras directly from the CATIA V5 interface, with no re-keying. Behind it sits an intelligent engine that identifies vehicles and their parts and writes their coordinate data as vectors, and error proofing built into the data management so that the class of mistake the manual process invited is designed out rather than checked for.
