The challenge
- The business was running on applications implemented in the late 20th century.
- There was no single source of truth; the aim was to create one inside Aras Innovator.
- The end vision was a digital twin inside Aras Innovator, which the legacy estate could not support.
What we did
- Took the end-to-end PLM implementation partner role, migrating 40 applications to Aras.
- Designed the functional architecture and the technical architecture.
- Designed the data model.
- Delivered system implementation, then continued improvements and support.
What we found
The customer certifies marine vessels, and was running that business on IT implemented in the late twentieth century. Forty separate applications carried the work between them, which meant no single source of truth existed and none could be assembled from what was there. The ambition went further than consolidation: the end state they wanted was a digital twin inside Aras Innovator, which is not something a modernised legacy estate can be talked into becoming.
What we built
The programme replaces the old estate rather than wrapping it. Forty applications are being migrated onto Aras as part of an end-to-end implementation, with the functional architecture, the technical architecture and the data model all designed for the target rather than inherited from the source. SteepGraph holds programme management and business consulting alongside the build, and the engagement continues through implementation into continued improvement and support. The digital twin is the end of the programme, not the beginning.
